Update

The past two weeks I have been painting pieces of work that can easily be scanned onto the computer and start to create a repeated pattern design. I have also scanned onto the computer all my other artwork painted pieces ready to start playing and designing different patterns with on Photoshop. Within the next week I will of also hopefully have my finished designs for my business cards and press pack. This week I have also started writing my artist statement for my final show exhibition.

Inspiring Fabrics

I recently visited the textile fabric shop Abakan, to get inspired and look at their fabrics that can help with my designs. I looked at fabrics with similar patterns to the ones that I would like to create for my designs and backgrounds to my motifs. I particularly like the patchwork fabrics and the different spotted and scattered designs.

Painted Studies

Here are two images of the paintings I have created from my research on tin toys . With this collection I have been trying to stick to a particular colour palette of blues, reds, yellows and browns and I really think these colours work well together for my theme.

Research on Tin Toys

To help with my research on tin toys I visited some local vintage shops in Manchester to see if they had any interesting old toys I could take photos of and draw from. I found that one shop had toys like robots and cars from the 80’s and 90’s. I have also been using the search website called Pinterest to gather images that can help me with my paintings and designs. I found that Pinterest has a very good wide range of images and this website helped me a lot when finding images ogf tin toys.

Ginger bread house

Here are some images I took of a ginger bread house that a relative of mine made over Christmas.  I have collected more images like this of the internet to help with my designs and ideas for my children’s interiors and kitchen wear collections. From these images I will draw and paint them along with more candy like landscapes and scenes. I really like the different and creative ways that little houses can be made out of cake, chocolate and candy thus helping me set the scene for my very own candy land.

New Research and Ideas

I have recently been researching into more different types of cakes and sweets but have also started researching into other things that relate to my theme and the collections that I want to create. I have been looking more into houses and buildings to add to my candy fantasy lands. I’ve particularly looked at buildings within German and Russian towns. From the images that I have collected I will create studies of my own by drawing and painting from them. I also been looking more at ginger bread houses and have even got images of my own of a ginger bread house first hand.  I’ve collected these images by using the internet site Pinterest. I found making an account on Pintersest helped me researching a lot better images quicker than before.
I have also been looking more into tin toys and in particularly transport for example toy cars, trains and rockets that can help me make a more boy collection to add with the others. I have also found that some of my designs would really work well as a collection for kitchen  so am thinking about what sort of things I could make for example oven gloves and cooking aprons but also maybe ceramics like cups and plates.
From this research I have also made up some colour pallets that work with my ideas and theme. With these colours and the images I have researched and collected I have been painting and drawing motifs and pictures.

Patterns Created

With my designs I have been experimenting with differnet colour ways and seeing what colours work best. With this one I felt that when I changed the colours around on Photoshop that it ended up looking better then the orignial as you can see. I think this repreat pattern of landscape works a lot better with pinks and blues rather then reds and greens. The different tones of pink and blue also make the pattern look more like a childs fantasy world.
Another appproach to creating patterns for a childs bedroom is one were different motifs are randomly scattered. I have created two pieces in this way. One being of different sweets and another being of different cakes. I really like these pieces and feel they would work well as bedding or cushion covers. I also really like the bright colours of the sweets and the softer colours of the cakes. If I wanted to, these pieces would also work well as childrens wrapping paper.
